Greatest Dolphins
The Dolphins have had plenty of great players in their 40-plus year history, but none were better than #13. Drafted in the first round at #27 of the 1983 draft, Marino started as a backup to starter David Woodley. Just six games into the season, Marino got the call and never looked back. Marino helped lead the Dolphins to the playoffs and became a Pro Bowl in his first year, though the team lost in the playoffs to the Seahawks. In 1984, his first full year as a starter, Marino was the league MVP, setting the then-record for most TD passes and most passing yards in a season. Marino took the Dolphins all the way to the Super Bowl, where they lost 38-16 to Joe Montana and the 49ers. The Dolphins made the playoffs in 10 of Marino's 17 years as QB. Marino retired after the 1999 season with 9 Pro Bowls under his belt and still holds the single-season record for passing yards, with 5,084, and is second behind Brett Favre in career passing yards. His number was retired by the team in 2000, and he was elected to the Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
