Man Shot By Police After Allegedly Shooting Security Guard: Cops

Fort Lauderdale Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday evening.

It happened around 10 p.m. in the 500 block of Northwest 1st Street near Andrews Avenue.

The preliminary investigation by police revealed a uniformed security officer was working at a venue located at 516 Northwest 1st Avenue, where a social event was being held.

The security officer and a patron, later identified as 26-year-old James McFadden, became involved in a dispute, during which McFadden allegedly became angered and pushed the officer.

A short time later, police said McFadden returned to the venue armed with a handgun, firing several shots and striking the officer multiple times. McFadden then fled the scene.

Fort Lauderdale Police responded and were directed to McFadden by witnesses. Officers pursued him on foot and encountered him in the 400 block of North Andrews Avenue.

During the encounter, an officer fired their weapon at McFadden, striking him once. He was taken into custody and officers recovered a handgun from his possession.

Both the victim and McFadden were transported to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured.

McFadden has been charged with one count of pre-meditated attempted murder.
