Pizza Delivery Driver Shot, Robbed in Miami

A pizza delivery man was shot and robbed while trying to make a delivery early Sunday morning.

Gustavo Gutierrez-Escoria, 59, tried to deliver a pizza around 1 a.m. to a home in the area of SW 200 Street and SW 123rd Drive, about a mile from the Pizza Hut where he worked.

When no one answered the door, Gutierrez called the contact number on the order. The customers told him that they were getting cash from a nearby ATM and asked Gutierrez to wait.

Two masked men approached Gutierrez to rob him, and shot him multiple times as he attempted to flee in his car.

"Over a couple of dollars, it's a Pizza Hut job, who's gonna have money on them while they're working?" Pizza Hut manager Aaron Reid said. "It's just sad."

Gutierrez drove to the Pizza Hut location and called 911. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue airlifted him to Kendall Regional Trauma Center, where he is listed in stable condition.

For his family, he's like the pillar of his brothers and sisters," said his daughter, Silvia.

His daughter said he called her on the way back to Pizza Hut.

"He called me and told me he was shot. 'I'm bleeding out and call the ambulance,'" she said. "That's what saved his life, his bravery saved his life."

Police are asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
