A man who was the suspect in the murder of his wife in Vero Beach is dead after authorities responded to a parking lot outside the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise Monday morning.

Officers responded to the parking lot near the Rooms to Go at 1905 N. Flamingo Road, where an armored truck and several SWAT officers surrounded a minivan.

A short time later, the suspect, Pedro Torres, was found dead in the car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.

"Our swat team made contact and the subject was found to be deceased inside the vehicle," Sunrise Police spokesman Chris Piper said.

Sunrise Police officials said they were assisting authorities from Indian River County in the search for Torres, who was believed to be in the area.

Authorities were looking for Torres as a person of interest in the Sunday morning murder of his wife, Vicky Torres.

Officials said Torres fled to South Florida and was believed to be armed and dangerous.
