Armed Fake Cop Robbed Elderly Man on His Way Home: Miami Police

He took $4,000 from the victim, police said

An armed police impersonator robbed an elderly man of $4,000 in cash on his way home from a bank in Little Havana Thursday afternoon, Miami Police said.

After the victim went to a Chase Bank a few blocks away, a man driving a black SUV who pretended to be a police officer approached him outside his home at 1835 Southwest 10th St. shortly after 2 p.m., police said.

He showed a gun and a badge, and stole the money the victim just took out of the bank, along with his wallet and cell phone, police said.

"He's not doing too good. Heโ€™s not feeling good. No comment right now,โ€ said a relative of the victim as he stood next to him in his home.

The crime left neighbors including Gloria Gonzalez worried.

"I feel so awful honey, because sometimes I go to the bank, and I walk into the bank, and my husband says, 'You have to be careful,โ€™โ€ she said.

Neighbors saw the incident, but thought the victim was just talking to a friend.

"I cried because I feel so sorry for that man,โ€ Gonzalez said. โ€œHe's a very good neighbor and very good man.โ€

Police ask anyone with information on the case to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
