Two men were taken into federal custody in connection with a Miramar produce market robbery during which the store’s owner opened fire on the suspects, the FBI announced.
Jason Lord, 25, and Shondrill Lamar Nunnally, 34, both of Miramar, were taken into custody Wednesday night by the South Florida Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force and Miramar Police Department. The pair is expected to face federal charges, according to authorities.
On Monday, two masked men ambushed and robbed 63-year-old Erol Morrison soon after he opened Sam’s West Indian Produce at 3156 South University Drive.
“They stopped me and they say they want Black and Milds, and I say I didn't have any, and as soon as I walked to the front, they came behind me and take me from behind,” Morrison told NBC 6 South Florida.
Morrison then opened fire on the thieves as they fled.
"In the end, the store owner pulled out a firearm and shot multiple times at one suspect," said Miramar Police spokeswoman Tania Rues. "We do know he was hit at least once."
Lord and Nunnally were expected to appear in Fort Lauderdale court Thursday.
