A new traffic pattern will take place Monday morning, as westbound drivers on the Dolphin Expressway (S.R. 836) heading north or south on the Palmetto Expressway (S.R. 826) will need to exit one mile earlier at the Northwest 72nd avenue and SR 826 exit.
The westbound SR 836 flyover ramp to southbound SR 826 on the left hand side will be permanently closed as part of the Interchange Reconstruction Project.
Accroding to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the project includes the reconstruction and widening of both S.R. 826 AND S.R. 836, the construction of a four-level interchange and modification of the Flagler Street/ S.R. 826 and Milam Dairy Road/ NW72 Avenue/ S.R. 836 interchanges.
The FDOT says the project will reduce travel time and provide more direct connections and access between S.R. 826 and S.R. 836, among other benefits.
The FDOT began the reconstruction project in November 2009. The project is scheduled to be completed by Fall of 2015, barring extreme weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.
