Claps of lightning have rattled South Florida in recent days, illuminating the sky and shaking the region with thunder. But Mother Nature's light show can be extremely dangerous - and sometimes, deadly. Three people died this year from lightning strikes, with the most recent fatality occurring right in Broward County. The other fatalities were in White Springs, Fla. and Honey Island, TX.
More than 280 people have lost their lives from lightning since 2008, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and an average of 47 Americans are killed each year because of it. Here's what you can do to keep yourself safe when lightning strikes.
