    MAN DROWNS RIDING JET SKI

    Authorities resumed their search Friday for a man who is believed to have drowned while riding a jet ski in a lake in northwest Miami-Dade Thursday.

    Washington County officials said nearly a dozen buildings in Vernon were flooded. The rising waters prompted emergency managers to move an emergency shelter from the Vernon High School to the county's agricultural center in Chipley. Authorities also closed all dirt roads in the county due to the excessive rainfall.

    According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Jose Manuel Cruz was driving out of a driveway when he realized he had forgotten something and put the truck in reverse so he could return to the house. Troopers say that somehow the toddler got outside and walked behind the truck without Cruz seeing him.
     
    APPEALS COURT UPHOLDS CONVICTION, SENTENCE OF WOMAN INVOLVED IN 2009 SLAYING OF PENSACOLA COUPLE
     
    Pamela Long-Wiggins was found guilty of accessory after the fact in the deaths of Byrd and Melanie Billings and sentenced to 28 years in prison. In her appeal, Long-Wiggins argued that she should have been granted immunity in exchange for cooperating with the state. The First District Court of Appeals rejected her appeal.

    WOMAN SHOT THROUGH THIGH BY STRAY BULLET

    A woman was shot in the leg as she watched Fourth of July fireworks outside her brother's home Thursday in central Broward. April Johnson, 26, was sitting in a chair near the street at 216 NW 28 Avenue just after 9 p.m. when she felt a sharp pain in her left leg, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office news release.
