Sometimes the latter gets lost amid all the scandals and "America's Most Wanted" episodes, but Miamians know how to party and make the most of O-zone layer depletion.
That's probably why Portfolio.com has ranked the Magic City among its Top 5 on the list of most fun cities in the United States. Miami comes in fourth behind New York, Chicago and Boston and edged out Los Angeles (the Miami of the West), which finished fifth.
True, the business news and travel website is showing a bit of East Coast bias (somehow Portland, Maine is more fun the Las Vegas on the list. Try selling that one to your wife on your anniversary or vacation), but it's hard to argue the merit points.
The site took into account recreation, entertainment, gambling opportunities, sport, shopping, dining and culture to come up with the rankings.
Miami ranked pretty high in most of those and the site didn't really hold the Florida Panthers or Florida Marlins against us.
"With major metropolitan areas like New York, Boston, Miami and Philadelphia, the East Coast offers a mix of both tourists and residents drawn to these cities for the diverse selection of shopping, food and drink, and cultural experiences," said J. Jennings Moss, the site's editor.
Meanwhile, keep having fun, Miami.
