    A North Miami Beach driver is in critical condition after a crash in Fort Lauderdale over the weekend, police said.

    Venetta Thomas, 42, suffered severe injuries in the crash between her 2003 Nissan Altima and a 2005 Nissan Murano being driven by Karen Miller, 44, of West Park, according to Fort Lauderdale Police.

    Miller’s car was heading east on West Broward Boulevard when it struck the left side of Thomas’ car, which was heading north on SW 7th Avenue, on Sunday at about 7:50 a.m., police said in a statement.

    Susie Castillo on Wednesday demanded that an independent investigation be launched into the Oct. 19 car crash that fatally injured her daughter Andrea. Her attorney, Jorge Silva, said he is considering a lawsuit against the city of Hialeah.

    Thomas was taken to Broward General Medical Center, police said.

    Police said their investigation continues, and ask anyone who witnessed the crash to call investigator Jill Hirsch at 954-828-5753.
